Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask about planning cuts with Plywise.

Is Plywise free?

Yes. The free plan needs no account and optimizes up to 20 parts at a time, 20 times a day. Pro removes the limits and adds exports for $5/month or $15/year.

What is a cut list optimizer?

A cut list optimizer takes the parts you need and the sheets you have, then works out how to lay the parts out on the sheets so you use as little material as possible.

Does it account for saw blade kerf?

Yes. Set your kerf once per project and every layout leaves room for the blade between parts. You can also set an edge trim for sheets with rough factory edges.

Can it keep the grain direction?

Yes. Parts with grain stay aligned with the sheet's grain; parts without grain can be rotated to fit better.

Which materials does it work with?

Any sheet goods: plywood, MDF, particleboard, melamine, OSB, acrylic or sheet metal. If it comes in rectangular sheets, Plywise can plan it.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Plywise runs in your browser on desktop, tablet or phone.

Does it work in inches and millimetres?

Yes. Each project uses inches, millimetres or centimetres, and inch measurements accept fractions like 23 1/4.

Can I use more than one sheet size or material?

Yes. Add every sheet size you have as stock, including half sheets and offcuts, and give parts and sheets a material. Parts are only placed on sheets of the same material.

Can I import my parts?

Yes. Import a CSV file or paste rows from a spreadsheet on any plan. Pro can also import a body dimensions listing from Autodesk Fusion.

Does it handle edge banding?

Yes. Mark which edges of each part get banding, and the cutting diagram shows them.

Can I print the cutting plan?

Pro exports a PDF report with every sheet diagram, part labels, CSV and images. On the free plan you can follow the on-screen diagram, which works well on a phone at the saw.

Where are my projects saved?

Projects are saved in your browser as you work. Sign in to sync them to the cloud: one project on a free account, unlimited with Pro.
